Lessons in Step 1

• Introduce the main letter sounds of English, each with its own story and action.
• Show children how to use their letter-sound knowledge to read and write simple regular words.
• Provide suitable words for the daily practice of blending for reading and segmenting for writing.
• Teach the first set of tricky words. Children learn to blend the sounds and identify the tricky part.
• Units in Steps 2 and 3
• Build and consolidate the reading and writing skills taught in Step 1.
• Cover the key topics of Alternatives, Handwriting, Tricky Words, and Words and Sentences.
• Introduce and revise the main alternative vowel spellings, capital letters, alphabet and new tricky words.
